WHY A METAL ROOF EXPANDS AND CONTRACTS?

Metal roofs heat up when the sun rises and passes through the sky. Standing Seam metal roofs are held down
with concealed clips and screws that allow the roof panels to move but not put stress on the screws that hold the panel down.

Old style exposed fastener metal roofs do not do that. The panels slowly push and pull on the screws causing
the roof to fail prematurely

CAN A METAL ROOF BE INSTALLED ONTO MY EXISTING ROOF?

Standing Seam Metal and Mobile Home Roof Overs can be installed directly over your
existing roof. Landfills are not polluted by tons of discarded roof materials.
The Building Code allows us to re-roof over an existing roof and this practice is done
everyday. The fact that a metal roof lasts so long and that it is completely recyclable
At the end of its life, make re-roofing over your existing roof a good idea. It is also a
good way to assure that during the installation of the new roof that you are protected from
stormy weather during construction.

DOES THE COLOR OF THE ROOF MATTER?

A light colored roof has a direct effect, since it reflects solar radiation and reduces air
conditioning usage. The indirect effect from a lighter colored roof is that lower
temperatures result in reduced ambient air temperatures, which again reduces the overall
“heat Island” effect. Dark colored roofs have a higher solar energy absorptive surface
and can be 75 to 100 degrees F hotter than ambient air. On the other hand, white
reflective roofs are only 15 to 25 degrees F hotter than ambient air. To quantify this
reduction, the effect of reducing air temperatures with a city the size of Los Angeles by
as little as 3 degrees F would reduce smog by about 10 percent—the same as switching
1 million conventional automobiles from gas to electric power.

I HAVE A FLAT AREA ON MY ROOF. CAN YOU BUILD IT
UP AND CREATE MORE OF A PITCH TO MY ROOF?

Yes. If you have a flat (tar & gravel) roof, we can install “tapered” Expanded
Polystyrene Foam Insulation (EPS) which allows your roof to be built up and create a
pitch (slope) for better water run off. You don't have the added weight onto your
existing roof as you would if you had wood trusses made and installed. You also receive
more of an insulation factor creating a greater R factor...which means more energy savings to you.

WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE SCREWS THAT FASTEN
DOWN THE ROOF PANELS?

On our “Standing Seam” roof system our fasteners and clips are concealed under the
metal panels, however, with the “Small Rib” corrugated roof system all fasteners are
exposed on the outside.

DO YOU ORDER THE ROOF PANELS OR DO YOU
MAKE THEM ON MY JOBSITE?

For the "Standing Seam" roof we run our own roof panels on your jobsite. We have three
computer roll formers that create all panels needed to any length we require. Thus, no
seams are created...no matter how long the panels need to be. The "Small Rib" panels
are special ordered directly from the manufacturer. We do not roll form this panel.

DOES A METAL ROOF ATTRACT LIGHTNING?

No. Due to the fact that metal roof systems are not “grounded”, metal roof systems do
not “attract” lightning the way you might think. Lightning needs a direct path to the
ground and a metal roof system on top of your home does not provide that path.
Lightning strikes to metal roofs are extremely rare and usually end up being the result of
an unplanned grounded path.

WILL MY ROOF COLOR FADE?

STREAMLINE will only install Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 paint system panels on our standing
seam metal roofs. This paint finish is a ceramic based paint in which the color of the roof is
baked on in a furnace. The Kynar 500 and Hylar 5000 finishes are simply the best paint system
available on the market today.

HOW DO METAL ROOFS PERFORM IN WIND?

It has been proven time after time, storm after storm that Standing Seam metal roofs
perform better than any other roofing product. Metal roofs have a very high wind rating
which make them a very good candidate for coastal homes. The wind rating for a metal
roof system is based upon your site specific geographical area.

WILL INSTALLING A METAL ROOF INCREASE THE
VALUE OF MY HOME?

According to an article published by the Metal Roofing Association in 2006 “The
Residential Cost Handbook, a reference used by real estate appraisers, reports that
the appraised value of a home will increase by $1.35 per sq. ft. when it has a metal roof.
Not only does it add value to your home, a metal roof actually saves you money – on
roofing maintenance costs and on your energy bills. Regular asphalt shingle roofs need
re-roofing (plus interim maintenance and shingle replacement) anywhere from 5 to 15
years. But a virtually maintenance free metal roof on your home means you will likely
never re-roof again….or have to worry about damage, leaks or missing shingles. For
saving money, metal roofing is second to none. In fact, having one on your home can
actually lower your heating and air conditioning bills year round. In the summer, metal's
scientifically tested reflective coatings keep your home cooler with less energy…in the
winter its insulating properties keep heat in, saving you energy and money.”

HOW DO I ADDRESS MY HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION'S
QUESTIONS REGARDING METAL ROOFING?

With metal roofing becoming so popular and with so many choices, many Homeowner's
Association's have been concerned with the types of roofing they will allow in their
neighborhoods. STREAMLINE offers a free Power Point Presentation with your
Homeowner's Association officials. We will show them the quality of the metal roof
systems available whether it is Standing Seam, Metal Shingles or Metal Tile systems.
STREAMLINE can explain the benefits to those who are concerned the most. We have
had a great response from the neighborhoods that were most reluctant to allow metal
roofing into their area's.
